Roscoe's Chicken And Waffles Long Beach, breaking news to tell you about in south l.a. three children have been found dead nan suv apparently stabbed.
the suv parked on east 32nd near dolores fuerta elementary school. dave lopez is with us. reporter: they are about to hold a news briefing for the media. chief, thank you for waiting for us live on channel 2. we have three children dead and
the chief is going to brief us, chief beck. chief charlie beck, joined by councilman price, steve zifferman, and by the command staff from operation central bureau and newton division. at 6:49 in the morning, newton patrol officers and the fire
department responded to reports of a gruesome scene, there were three dead children in the back seat of a sport utility vehicle, and a man seated in the front seat with knife stab wounds to his chest. officers aided with the extraction of the individual in
the front seat and he was transported by rescue ambulance to a local hospital. detectives were summoned. they determined that the three children, the three deceased children, all males between the ages of 8 and 12, in the back of the suv, were deceased from
multiple stab wounds. at this point, detectives have developed evidence which leads them to believe we have the suspect in custody. we do not believe there are outstanding suspects in this matter. no need for a community alert
regarding such suspects. i cannot give detailed information about the evidence that leads us to this belief, but i can tell you that it is strong, and i have great faith in the detectives handling this case. these are horrific incidents.
these are incidents that scar not only a community, but the first responders who have to handle them. it is a sad day in los angeles, made only slightly better by the fact we have a probable suspect in custody. and now, i'd like to give you
for a few words, council member curren price, i'll take a few questions at the end. i have to remind you, i will not give out details in the case, it is far too soon and i don't want to endanger the prosecution. councilman price. thank you, chief.
we want to express our condolences to the family and the community for this gruesome discovery. special thanks to the men and women of central and also of our stations who have provided the relief, provided the assistance. i take this personally, i live
right around the corner, and i pass this way many times. been to the school many times. to know that the kids that are back and forth here, full of life, full of vibrancy and these three are gone. we're going to be working closely with the community, with
the police. others in the community to create a fund in memory of these youngsters and to provide some support to the family, and we ask the community to join us in providing resources as a way of expressing our condolences but also providing assistance for
the future. again, we express our condolences, appreciate the efforts of central and men and women of newton, and we know that the community will come together as we strive to provide comfort, not only to this family but to a community that's
grieving with a loss of life today. thank you. the man in the front seat, is he the suspect? or can you even go that far? dave, i'm not going to go further than i've already gone. i can tell you we transported an
individual with stab wounds from the front of the vehicle where the children were deceased, and that we currently have a suspect that we believe to be responsible, and that he is in custody. we'll be able to give more information in the near future,
but this is a very tenuous time, and i want to make sure i do not hamper the detectives' work with my statements. can you tell us about the children? reporter: the children are between 8 and 12 years old, all male.
